In Her Own Words
About Her
Thanks to my friend who is more literate than myself and who has lent me her profile - Do people realise that once you are on medication you are no danger to them - in fact hiv+ people who look after themselves and take their medication are usually healthier than the rest of the nation.
Keep an eye on your blood counts (easy to do) and transmission is zero - this is not disclosed in SA because of the fear factor of people randomly going and banging anything they can find - SO DONT DO THAT. There are about 36 million people with HIV in the world - there are over 380 MILLION people with diabetes. More people die of TB and diabetes than of controlled HIV. The SA Government would rather scare people (correctly).
HIV+ people can have babies, relationships and enjoy life as it was meant to be enjoyed - so why the secrecy? Why the stigma?
If you have it - you will know that it is the most difficult thing to disclose. So you meet someone and get on really well with them - but then theres the big "Do I? When? How?.
Do you spend weekends and Friday nights on your own because the trauma of disclosing? Wouldn't it be great to meet people that you don't have to explain anything to? to have fun, meet for drinks, have dinner and maybe... just maybe.
So lets meet up and have some fun - and if theres a match then so be it.
Gays and Blacks have soooo many of their own websites and dating sites that the poor white straight person who has this is left out in the dark.
Right now - the idea is to have "meet ups" in Johannesburg area - and maybe find people in other provinces to organise something there. Or just to have an e-mail chat room so we can share ideas and have some good clean fun.
Who cares how you got it - you have it and thats that!!
Confidentiality - we will all understand is paramount - so the trust factor would be put into my friend and I.
The universe is incredibly dumb about HIV and once you have lived with it for more than 10 years you get tired of explaining yourself to everyone and everything.
